Mental health is an issue that is very dear to me. I was Minister for Children and Shadow Minister for Mental Health and I was particularly concerned about the pressures on our children - more than 1 in 10 have a notifiable mental health problem.

It is a big problem but mental health does not receive the attention it should and doesn't receive the amount of funding it should within the NHS. This is why I am very pleased to see that Theresa May has given such a high profile to mental health and pledged the Conservatives after the election to ensuring the issue is a much high priority in the NHS. I discuss a number of the initiatives the Prime Minister has announced.
