A27 Improvements

There were a lot of facts and figures thrown around at the recent A27 public meeting, as there has been throughout the discussions on this crucial piece of infrastructure in the area. I have collated various data sheets and answers to residents questions which I hope you will find helpful in forming your own views on the matter.

Attached below you will find:

  • BBC Radio Sussex Traffic Correspondent, Stephen Cranford's analysis of the delays and costs to businesses caused by the traffic lights at the Grove Lodge roundabout
  • Traffic count results for the 6 locations around Worthing (including the Steyning bypass.
    • It appears from these figures that traffic though Worthing has decreased by around 10% since 2000, whereas traffic on Long Furlong and the Steyning bypass have increased.  The latest average flow figures for the A283 Steyning are the highest ever recorded, whereas most other areas peaked around 2007/8, just before the time of a big hike in fuel prices which curbed people’s vehicle usage somewhat.
  • Vehicle running costs
  • Answer: What is the hourly cost on the road for light goods vehicles and HGV?
  • South Downs National Park Association -  Response to A27 proposals
  • Ricardo A27 Working Group presentation- Energy and the Environment
  • Answers: Questions tabled by the 'Bypass not throughpass' group
  • Written Ministerial Statement - Roads Funding
  • Department of Transport's Roads Funding Document
