Tim Loughton MP (East Worthing and Shoreham) welcomed the latest unemployment statistics from the ONS, which showed that the total number of unemployment claimants had fallen to 658 (1.4%), it also compares favourably against figures from May 2010 when there were 1,759 (3.7%) unemployment claimants.
Nationally there was a total of 742,063 (2.4%) unemployment claimants, again this compares favourable will statistics in May 2010, when there were 1.5m unemployment claimants (4.8%).
As former Minister for Children and Young People, Tim was also pleased to see that youth unemployment claimants had fallen nationally to 151,645 (2.6%). This is a marked fall from the 416,840 (7.1%) in May 2010.

“These latest unemployment figures prove again that the Government’s long-term economic plan is continuing to pay dividends for people in East Worthing and Shoreham. Every job is a pay packet for the hard-working people and families up and down the UK. It was particularly pleasing to see youth unemployment falling, as it goes to show that the jobs growth is benefiting all areas of the workforce.
“Following the UK’s momentous decision to leave the EU, we can now re-join the rest of the world, where there is growth and increasing prosperity. This will create new jobs for people in East Worthing and Shoreham and around the country in the years to come."
