Hijacked!

Chesham House was absolutely heaving last Saturday for their fundraising open day, and it was good to see such support from the local community just over a year on from when we persuaded Royal Voluntary Service to keep the centre open. There were cheese scones galore, plenty of stalls and great music by Lancing’s star violinist Mathew English and others. MPs, councillors and rather better qualified cyclists were made to sweat in full public view on the static bike but best of all it was great to hear about all the new activities now on offer at the community centre and plans for new ones to come. If you haven’t been along to Chesham House recently you are missing out.

I then popped in on an equally uplifting free play session for children at the Parish Hall run by the ‘Wheely Good Fun’ crew with toy trains, vehicles and track all over the place and a lot of fun being had by one and all. This is yet another example of the Parish Council making best use of the Parish Hall by opening it up to the local community now the vaccination hub is no longer in need of it.

Less uplifting was my next stop at the new Lancing Youth Hub on Monks’ Rec with parish Council Chairman Councillor Mike Mendoza. A few weeks ago we celebrated the opening of this brilliant new facility for local young people put together by the charity of local boxer Scott Welch. It has been doing a great job until some mindless vandals smashed in half of the windows overnight last weekend.

Scott and the Parish Council will not be deterred, and repairs will be made and security improved but it is just hugely frustrating that there are those who just want to ruin it for everyone else. There is a reward for information about the culprits and a video on my website with more information about how you can help. Please share the following link to my video appeal for the perpetrators to come forward:  https://fb.watch/nk-2-nfxig/
