TL Shoreham by Sea

Thank you to all those constituents sending me details of roadworks involving seemingly unwarranted lane closures and lights causing traffic chaos, since the launch of my campaign last week. Incredibly there have been 2 further sets of roadworks in much the same place on the Brighton Road A259 in Lancing yet again – surely they can coordinate better!

No sooner had we launched one campaign then another one comes along. Last week the train operating companies announced a very short consultation on proposals to close ticket offices at railway stations across the Sothern/Thameslink and other regions. This was mooted some years ago and very quickly dropped. For some reason it has re-emerged supposedly in the name of improved customer service with ‘roaming staff’ on platforms there to help people struggling to get their ticket from the machines (if they are working) or online.

I regularly queue up every Monday morning at the ticket office to buy my flexible return ticket because it is not available from the machine. Invariably I am behind people with disabilities needing extra help or others after route advice or trying to navigate the complicated pricing alternatives. I fail to see how these changes will help them and so I have made my opposition to the plans clear.

I would urge all train using constituents to respond to the consultation and there are details of how to do this and a video on my website and Facebook page. But hurry as the consultation is only open until July 26th.

Residents of Shoreham and Fishersgate are also being asked to a further consultation about possible resident parking and other schemes to help alleviate congestion. This follows the lobbying of West Sussex Highways by the town’s county councillors and me and it is essential that as many people as possible engage. Again, there will be further details and a video available on my platforms shortly. With Shoreham especially continuing to expand action is required urgently and we need to get it right.
