We have lots of new housing developments coming up in Sussex but not always the right sort of housing or in the right place. We need more housing for local people but we cannot keep squeezing low quality buildings into ever smaller places without having the proper infrastructure in place. I spent 27 years as a Sussex MP impressing that point on local councils and developers.
If I am elected as the new Sussex Mayor, I will insist on certain conditions before we go ahead with new developments:
🏡 Developers will need to show they have the proper infrastructure in place to support any new building. This includes roads, doctor’s surgeries, and schools.
🏡 They must build proper homes. That means homes that are of a good quality, that fit in with our local environment, and that are sustainable and affordable for the next generation.
🏡 Taxes raised from Sussex people and businesses must be reinvested into our region so we can have better infrastructure.
