TL Blessing of the Boats

Thank you to everyone who so generously supported my 97-year young constituent Ant Gillings on his 5 mile ‘Walk for Peggy’ last Friday, and apologies to those who came out to walk with him but were unable to keep up the pace as he finished the route in under an hour and a half. And it looks as though he is on course to raise more than £2500 for 4Sight, well over double the target.

It was a very active weekend and particularly enjoyable given the fine weather at last. It was a pleasure as always to be part of the ‘Blessing of the Boats’ service on Lancing Beach Green. I don’t know how far back this traditional ceremony goes on but the ever flamboyant Father Felix attracted a big crowd who enjoyed the music played by Lancing Brass and organised by ‘Mr Music; Aedan Kerney.

Thanks to Ropetackle and Wordfest for organising a really good and measured discussion on the thorny issue of migration policy, as part of their ‘Tackling the issues’ series. This is a very topical but often overly-heated issue and so it was good to sit down on a panel joined by experts Professor Ann Singleton of Bristol University and Dr Jo Wilding from Sussex and have a good natured discussion, agreeing a lot but also disagreeing politely.

On the subject of Ropetackle I am organising an interesting evening entitled ‘Dial Medicine for Murder’ on June 27th for a performance by two practicing doctors on the subject of Britain’s most notorious GP serial killers, Dr Bodkin-Adams and Dr Harold Shipman, one with local connections. Their production went down a storm at the Edinburgh Festival and is very entertaining and more than mildly alarming. Proceeds are being split between Shoreham Conservatives and the Shoreham Lifeboat and you can order tickets through the Ropetackle box office. Details on my website.

See you at Shoreham Framer’s Market street surgery as usual this Saturday morning.
