Animal Sentience

No, MPs did not vote that animals aren't sentient. A few mischief makers are out on social media claiming Conservatives voted against animals being sentient. This is not true.

As a committed animal lover, like many of my Conservative colleagues, I would never have voted against animals being sentient, since it is self-evidently the case that they are. We should all work together in post-Brexit Britain, as I have argued before, to make sure we have the best animal welfare and environmental regulations anywhere in the world.

The Government have made great announcements on pesticides, the ivory trade, bottle recycling, micro-beads in cosmetic products, CCTV in slaughterhouses and bans on live animal exports (all of which you can see here: https://www.timloughton.com/conservatives-government)

Don't let a few mischief makers and pedlars of fake news detract from the really great work the Conservatives are doing in government for animals and the environment.

Please also find attached a letter from the Environment Secretary, in which he categorically commits the Government to animal sentience once and for all. He couldn’t be clearer:

“This government will ensure that any necessary changes required to UK law are made in a rigorous and comprehensive way to ensure animal sentience is recognised after we leave the EU.”

There is also a fairly depressing story about how far spread this fake news story has become: https://order-order.com/section/guido-fawkes/
