Dinkie Flowers and Speaker

Dinkie’s at it again.

The Shoreham dance legend Dinkie Flowers is again raising money for local good causes to mark her forthcoming birthday, just 102 years young on May 7th.

Dinkie was dancing from the age of 3, later becoming an international ice skater. Her career led to her dancing for the Royal Family in the ‘Celebrity Ice Gala’ at the Queens Ice Club in 1952, which brought a letter of thanks from the Duke of Edinburgh.

At 98 Dinkie made her TV debut, tap dancing her way through the auditions to appear on the Greatest Dancer.

Even well into her nineties Dinkie was teaching dance and keep fit classes, until the lockdown curtailed her activities in 2020.

In the 100 days leading up to her 100th birthday Dinkie very successfully raised funds for NHS charities by daily dance kicks. Now she has been carrying out one hour keep fit and dance sessions all in aid of the excellent Gateway Hub run by Jill Lennon and her volunteers at Fishersgate.

Regular readers may recall that I invited Dinkie up to Westminster to celebrate her 101st birthday last year and introduced her to Mr Speaker only for him to get roped into some dance moves. One of the resulting photographs was shortlisted in the annual Parliamentary Photo Exhibition before Christmas.

I am going to be joining Dinkie in one of her routines this week and if you would like to sponsor Dinkie her JustGiving page is www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/dinkie-flowers
