Family, friends and former colleagues of Clive Williams gathered on a wet afternoon last week to remember the late Shoreham County Councillor and unveil a bench in his memory on the new Ferry Road platform at the southern end of the Adur Ferry Bridge.

The bench has been organised by Clive's widow Tessa of Church Street, Shoreham with the help of retiring county councillor Janet Mockridge. It was unveiled jointly by Tessa and Parliamentary candidate Tim Loughton who first recruited Clive into the Conservative Party and encouraged him to become a councillor.

Despite the rain a large group witnessed the unveiling including current Shoreham County Councillor Debbie Kennard and Southwick County Councillor Dave Simmons.

Tessa spoke of Clive's love for the community of Shoreham and his work to secure the new bridge to replace the old footbridge which alas he never lived long enough to see come to fruition.

Tim commented:

"Clive was a great representative of Shoreham and worked tirelessly at County Hall to make sure that our corner of West Sussex got a proper look in.

"His biggest legacy is certainly the new bridge which he worked so hard to secure and it is entirely fitting that the new bench in his memory has a prime view looking out across the Adur at the town he loved so much and did so much for."
